Keel Laying Ceremony for ‘24-M All-Rounder 360 Tug’ Project

Posted on April 14, 2022 by admin | 4322 Views

A keel laying ceremony for this shipbuilding project was held today at LSE’s shipyard in Jalan Rancha-Rancha, Labuan. This momentous ceremony marks the first part of the hull construction for this 24-metre all-rounder 360 tugboat (AR360T).

The construction of this tug is historically noteworthy because it is the first ever tug capable of making a complete 360 degrees (360°) turn, to be built in Malaysia, and thus creating a new significant chapter for the shipbuilding industry in the country.

A signing session symbolising the laying of the keel was signed by the ship’s owner, Harbour 360 represented by its General Manager, Mr. Ooi Kean Meng, and Chief Operating Officer of LSE, Mr. Khamdi Khalip, who represented the contractor. Other distinguished guests who were present to witness the ceremony were Naval Arch Marine Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Ir. Peter Tay, NVS Maritime Consultancy Sdn Bhd Director, Mr. Robert Versteeg, and Bureau Veritas (M) Sdn Bhd, New Construction Manager, Mr. Noor Asha bin Abdul Rashid.

LSE’s top management team and key workers and personnel from the project team and were also present to witness the ceremony.

Previously completed tugboat construction projects include three (3) units of tugboats for Bintulu Port.
